In the fertilizer industry, whether powdered natural fertilizers, mineral fertilizers or animal meal, the colour of a product is usually directly related to its quality.
HunterLab offers suitable measurement solutions to precisely determine the colour quality of fertilizers and fertilizers in production. In particular, it is possible to determine the degree of whiteness WI according to ASTM E313 when using white products such as calcium carbonate or magnesium sulphate.
The task
Precise colour measurement of powdered fertilizers with optional determination of the degree of whiteness WI E313.
The solution
HunterLab recommends the ColorFlex EZ spectrophotometer and the use of a 64 mm optical glass cuvette for the colour measurement of powder samples. By measuring the sample from below through the glass base, you have a perfectly flat and homogeneous measuring surface. The cuvette aperture of the ColorFlex EZ also ensures that the cuvette always sits reproducibly and centrally above the aperture. The degree of whiteness WI E313 can be displayed directly on the screen.
The measurement is very simple:
- Replace the standard aperture once with the cuvette aperture and standardize the device with it
- Fill the product into the cuvette
- Place the cuvette on the aperture
- Trigger measurement at the touch of a button
- Read off values
